Autoupdates were failing on wpengine. I had it installed on several installations on WPE and all had the same issue. Basically it would run and fail due to being unable to write certain files.

After a lengthy chat WPE support said
“Checking over this, it does appear the cron was being blocked from properly running as it was attempting to write to a PHP file as a non authenticated user due to code being ran. At this time, I have added a custom NGINX rule for this site to allow those requests to go through.

Unfortunately, I would not be familiar with how the plugin code attempts to make those requests, that would be best to ask the plugin developer. Based on the logs, I saw it was hitting our security policies so I created a rule to allow those specific requests permission.”

Thought you should know. They created a custom fix /exception but seems there may be an issue with the way the call is being made that triggers their security. Would be good if you and WPE could figure out how to get it to run smoothly. I saw in your troubleshooting page that you couldn’t figure out the problem on WPE
