    Hi,

Updraft is an awesome plugin. Great job with it!

What is the difference between a backup and a migration? I recently used the plugin to move a website from a shared server to a vps and I used the backup method.

Are there inherent risks with restoring a backup file onto a fresh WordPress install?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Jorge,

A migration with UpdraftPlus takes a backup and transfers it to a different site to be restored. However, this is not available in the free version of UpdraftPlus, and requires the Migrator add-on (see updraftplus.com for more details)

If restoring to a fresh WordPress site with the same URL, then you do not need the migration method.
However, if restoring a backup on a different site without the Migrator add-on, the site URL stored in the database will not be updated.

    Hello,

Thank you for the explanation. I am glad that is the case.

    Best Regards.
