    Hey all,
Of course, backups made by WordPress plugins aren’t always reliable. But I am just curious if most people using this method of keeping their blog backed up, have always found them to be reliable?. I use UpDraftPlus, through FTP.

My only fear is a backing being made that isn’t 100%, and having something happen to my site, then having no good backups.

I keep local copies of all files and database dumps that I get after (and sometimes before if I think there could be problems) each update. For me this works the best for my own personal work, but we’ve also got a commercial backup system that backs up the entire webiste account (not just the files and databse), as well as having the standard backups that our hosting company does. For me, those three backup methods is enough to let me sleep at night without too many terrors. 😉

Alright thats good to know thanks. But if you ever were signed up for a service like Codeguard, or a dedicated host like WP Synthesis or WPengine even, would you trust their backups as your primary backup source?. Telling from what you said, I’m guessing not, but this is also a question for everyone else. Thanks in advance, if anyone replies.

    A primary source? No.

What happens if they suddenly go broke? What happens if their internet bill doesn’t get paid and they loose conectivity? What happens if they get their servers stolen?

Not that any of those things are really that likely, but unless you can control your data (including backups), well you don’t control it.

Alright, so if I used a service like CodeGuard, in combination with a WordPress plugin like Updraft (backing up my site through FTP), should I be pretty much okay for the future?. I’d use Updraft with an external FTP server of course, not the same server my site is hosted onto.

    Probably.

Honestly that’s about the best answer that anyone’s going to be able to give you. There’s reasons why some people keep one backup if they are lucky, and others keep 5 or 6 in different places. If you’re happy with that level of backup then it’s fine.

Is there a chance that something might happen to it? Yes. But there’s no 100% guaranteed backup method ever. Even using multiple methods can never give you a 100% guarantee no matter how much people would like you to think. It’s all about how secure you feel about the systems that you put inot place.
