Hello.
No, this is all stuff that is available free of charge, no premium access needed for it.
Could you clarify “If I remove the API Key and just go with my Username and Password, it does not save this information or it fills it in with my site login information.” ? BadgeOS is specifically designed NOT to save your Credly username and password, they’re used long enough to fetch your API key. We’re not sure what you means by “fills it in with my site login information”. What is doing the filling? your browser?
For the sake of testing, what browser are you using? Issues with the badge builder itself are external to BadgeOS. It’s all loaded via an iframe from Credly.com
The browser doesn’t seem to make any difference. I’ve tried IE11, Firefox and Safari. I have been unable to duplicate where it asks me to upgrade the version I’m using or where it inserted my site user account information. I have uninstalled/re-installed this plug-in several times since this originally happened. Now when I enter the Credly username and password it shows it has saved them and removes them from the fields. I believe this is what you intended. Unfortunately, the Badge Builder feature still fails.
I can create an account on my website so you can play with this if you wish.
When you talk about not activate, do you mean when you’re editing a specific badge, and you click the link along the right under “Achievement Image”, nothing pops up like you expect?
BadgeOS->Achievement Types->Add New->Credly Badge Builder = Pop-up asking “Want to create a custom badge image?” When you click on the pop-up, you are redirected to the Credly Integration Settings page. Clicking on “Use Credly Badge Builder” under “Set default achievement image” also redirects you to the Credly Integration Settings page.
Since i began this post, I created a completely new website with the following plug-ins installed: BuddyPress, bbPress, BadgeOS, BadgeOS BadgeStack Add-On, BadgeOS Community Add-On, CubePoints and CubePoints Buddypress Integration. This has a separate database. I get the same results.
I decided to create a new account with Credly to see if this changed things. It did not. I would put in the new user name and password and it saved it but did not provide an API Key and I would get redirected.
Finally, I changed the setting “Enable Badge Sharing via Credly:” on the Credly Integration Settings page to “Yes” and I repeated the process. This time it all worked and I received my API Key. I went back and changed the setting to “No” and the error returned.
Apparently, as long as I agree to Enable Badge Sharing via Credly, I am allowed to use the Badge Builder feature.
I feel this plug-in is a good one and I do appreciate the response time received from the author. It’s obvious Michael Beckwith knows his stuff and he cares about customer service. Thank you.
Now if I can figure out how to credit someone for uploading a picture or embedding a video, I got it made, but that’s another thread.
That would make sense, to be honest. Needing to agree to use the source to use the tool.
I can’t claim all credit here. I’m sure we have one person who gets tired of hearing from me :D. I am by no means the sole author Everything with BadgeOS is very much a team effort with shared knowledge. We should really use it ourselves in production lol. I do care about customer service though, that much is true 😉
Regarding that last bit, there are submission based steps available that you can set up.
I spoke too soon…
Now that I can access Badge Builder. It only works part of the time. When using IE11 you can select the circle badge only. When using Firefox, you get to use all badges. The biggest problem is most times it does not save your badge.
Out of maybe 20 badges created, I have been able to save 3. Many times if you get completely out and go back in, you might get to save the first badge created, but usually I get the message “Updating featured image, please wait…” where it never saves anything. Very frustrating.
There are several other websites that have free badge builders so getting badges won’t be a problem. I would really like for this feature to work, because it does make things simpler if it is functioning properly. Having the ability to upload you own icon, like the other websites have, would be a nice addition.
Also, I see where you give credit to the icon authors. Are these copyrighted? Are we required to list this credit if we use these icons?
We’ll need to check on this, from the sounds of it. I’m not quite sure where it’s failing and in what ways it’s meant to save (and where). Due to it being an iframed source, the actual builder is external and on Credly’s website. The saving is meant to go on on our side, but anything with the creation portion is done on Credly’s side. I’m going to file this as a bug for us to look into soon.
Regarding the last part. I imagine they’re licensed under one of the FOSS licenses and credited enough where you don’t need to explicitly list credit yourself. I hope I’m not wrong with that, but I imagine that’s the case.
Outdoorsmen, if you are still seeing the issue, could you go to your BadgeOS > Credly Integration settings page inside your WP install, delete the current saved key, and then re-log in to fetch a new copy. Once you’ve done that, try again with the original issue and let me know if it’s showing properly.
We had someone make a change on Credly’s end recently that should have fixed the issue.
I went with a fresh install, new API Key, etc.. The problem is still there.
Badge Builder…
You can save with IE11 but you’re limited as far as design (Border). With Firefox, you can design, but you can’t save. It says it saved but it is not there.
Sorry about the bad news. Keep trying.
