• I am a wordpress newbie. I have installed the Twenty Eleven theme. I would like to create multiple pages on my site with different layouts. For example, only the homepage will have the banner header image; all the others should have just the menu. Some will have two or three columns of content, some will have one.

From what I already know of HTML, I should be creating different templates for pages. Is this correct? Because right now, I do not see how to create a page without the header and sidebar, unless I remove those options for all pages on the site.

So, is there an EASY step-by-step tutorial for wordpress templates? The Templates page here (http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Templates) assumes way too much prior background.

    Thanks.

I did. I’m still lost. Thanks. I need a tutorial that walks me through step-by-step. I have used CSS in the past on my own HTML, so I’m not a basic beginner to coding, but I cannot decipher the instructions here.

I’m sorry but that’s about as basic as it gets.

Are there any online videos or tutorials that show what is supposed to be going on in the instructions? I have not used PHP before; I think that’s my problem.

You could have a look at http://wordpress.tv/ but I think you probably need to start learning basic PHP first.

Is there any way to have my site have different styles or formats of pages WITHOUT creating php template files? (So I can put something up while I’m learning this other stuff?) Or is it a one-size-fits-all system, where all the pages will look exactly alike (same format, same sidebar, etc.).

Do I need a different Theme than twentyeleven?
