# Basic URL/Domain Changes

 * I have a new web site that I have developed, but can’t use the existing name 
   or URL. I use stablehost to host the site. I have not publicized the site, it
   is not available to search engines, yet.
 * Questions:
    1) what is the easiest way to change the domain name and URL? Please
   remember that I don’t need and can’t have the old site available. 2) how do I
   establish redirects so that on the off chance someone tries to access the old
   site, they will automatically be directed to the new site?
 * Note that I have seen some instructions on how to make the switch, but they seem
   overly complicated and focused on those who have established sites. I’m guessing
   there is an easier way.

 * 1. If you have command line access, use the wp-cli “search-replace” command. 
   If not, the plugin “better search replace” is the best way to search for `http://
   oldexample.com` and replace with `http://newexample.com` Before doing so, make
   sure that the new domain points to your site.
 * 2. You’d do this via your domain registrar and set up a domain forward.
