 * Hello!
 * I would like to reach out to the great people here and get some feedback on making
a decision on an image optimization plugin. I have been researching for several
weeks and having a hard time deciding on the best direction to take. My companies
website is a News/Media site and we have been working in the industry now for
over 4 years. In that time we never did any optimization of images just due to
not knowing that was a very key thing that everyone should do. Fast forward 4
+ years our Media Library is now 35gb.
 * I am trying to find a plugin that will compress the images well from the server-
side then I am going to then have all the images pushed off the hosting company
to Amazon S3 or that is my plan anyway to help boost and optimize the website.
I have tried plugins such as Smush Pro but I hear the compression ratio is not
that great, EWWW but it seems like to me it is kind of pricey, ShortPixel which
I am not sure what it would cost due to having 35gb and I believe its all CDN
delivery, and a variety of other tools. At this point, I am at a crossroads and
want something that is solid that will do good compress to take my overall size
down at the server-side then at the same time going forward to optimize that
image any time a new one is added to the library before it goes over to Amazon
   S3.
 * I hope this makes sense and I would greatly appreciate feedback, comments, and
steer me in the right direction!
 * Thanks!

 * For images look at using [https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/)
   or [https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/)
will give you the best results.
 * In general other than images the question you are asking is highly dependent
on the type of server environment shared, vps, dedicated… cpanel or not… and
what host provider. There is no “best” service for cdn but personally I like
CloudFlare because of how easy it is to set up with their branded plugin [https://wordpress.org/plugins/cloudflare/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/cloudflare/)
it says it has not been updated since 4.9.10 and while that may be true I have
had no issues using it as recently as yesterday on a 5.2.2 site. 🙂

 * Thank you for responding. Above I mentioned we tried Smush It Pro and from some
sites that have reviewed the plugin its compression ratio is not that great.
EWWW seems solid but the free one dont do much at all from my experience and
I would hate to invest a lot of money there if I am also doing Amazon S3 for
   offloading all my images.
 * My server type is a VPS and using Inmotion Hosting. We do utilize Cloudflare
and enjoyed it structure for sure. No complaints with Cloudflare I am just trying
to tackle my images at the server end of things and hopefully compress and optimize
them before they are sent to S3. Hope that makes sense.
 * Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

 * Yes, I saw that in your original post about the image optization… It sounds to
me like the theme is causing the ratio issues. I could be wrong but in my experience
when I’ve had ratio issues even after using one of those plugins for image compression
it was the theme causing the issues.
