 * Specifically, images went missing and when images were deleted, captions appeared
   in on the live post.

   unrelated to the post handling, so it’s highly unlikely that the update is the
   reason for issue. Can you share your blog url so that we can have a check? Also,
   where there any other plugins which got updated/added at the same time?
