Can I simplify the admin interface?

    Hello,

    I’m setting up a WP site for a client who has limited computer skills. I want to teach her how to add, change and update content herself. Is there any way I can simplify the admin interface to the bare minimum she will need? All I really need to display are the “Manage” and “Write” tabs. Can I shut the others off?

    guess you could edit wp-admin/index.php.

    Kurt8: you could either edit the menu (/wp-admin/menu.php) or you can edit the permissions of her account with a plugin like Role Manager. Just edit her account so she can’t manage plugins, etc. and those areas will disappear for her (hopefully).

    Also edit /wp-admin/index.php to redirect to a better page. Just drop this at the top of it:

    header('Location: post.php');
    exit();

    If I wanted to write a plugin to hide particular areas of Admin (The ‘Links’ tabs for instance)… would it be hard?

    D’oh. Just realised that Role Manager does this already!

    Is there way to hide the post password, meta fields, and excerpts though?

    I too am looking for a way of simplifying the write post page, and hiding post password, etc. Is there anyway of doing it without hacking the core files?
