# Cannot access or edit!

 * Hello,
    I am having troubling accessing anything to edit my site. Every time 
   I click on a tab on the side it just goes blank, the top tool bar disappears 
   etc. The only option I can access is the Staff page and make changes and the 
   top toolbar reappears. I cannot access the posts to add a new or even do any 
   upgrading. I am not sure what version I am using as I cannot access anything 
   to see any info. Anyone have any ideas??

 * try a few basic troubleshooting steps:
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily
   to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this
   works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(
   s). – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default
   theme for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue(
   theme functions can interfere like plugins). – If that does not resolve the issue,
   try [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   via [FTP or SFTP ](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients)or whatever file management
   application your host provides. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can 
   still cause problems. – If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then
   try **MANUAL** updating (latest release is 4.2). Download a fresh copy of the
   WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files
   and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You
   may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading
   the new ones. Read the [Manual Update ](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update)
   directions first. – **If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (
   including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really
   goes wrong.**
