Hi,
Flickr probably has “hotlinking” protection.
This means they do not allow others to directly link to the images hosted on their site.
There is a good reason for that, because when you and many others just use their link, you are using their bandwith on their servers where they are paying for and would slow down their servers big time.

@logologics that is good reasoning. I have initiated a query with them for the same.
Thoughts on the second query?
Hi,
You might pay for a service where you can host your own images and then link to those in your wordpress site.
Dropbox is one of them, you can google those kind of services.
Another way is to have a second domain + hosting and upload all images there and link to them.
Easiest way though, is to put your site on a CDN ( even the free cloudflare does a good job ). That way, you can still upload all your images in WordPress, but they will be served from Cloudflares servers.
Ofcourse, also make sure to upload images that are optimized, or optimize them using a plugin like smush it or imagify.
