    Hi

I’m very new to podcasting, wordpress and the PowerPress plugin, so please forgive any lapses in etiquette. According to the blubrry web site, I should be able to create a subscribe page from a template by following these instructions:

To create your page, go to PowerPress settings and select the “Appearance” tab. Under the Subscribe Page settings, click the link “Create a subscribe page from template”. This will create a new static page in your WordPress site using our recommended template. Do not forget to click save.

My problem is that I cannot find the “appearance” tab within the PowerPress settings anywhere in my installation of wordpress.

    Can anyone help?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Unfortunately, that support document is outdated. Sorry for the inconvenience. The Subscribe Page options are now in the Website tab of PowerPress Advanced Mode settings.

    Hi @shawnogordo

Thank you for your response. I have found the subscribe page options under the Website tab, as you described.

However, I still cannot find your recommended template for creating this static page.

Any further help will be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

The “template” is automatically generated when you either create a new Subscribe Page or assign an existing Page on your site to be the Subscribe Page.

Click the Create a Subscribe Page From Template link to automatically generate a Subscribe Page with the default URL of example .com/subsctibe-to-podcast/ or create a new blank Page with your preferred URL for the Subscribe Page and select your Page in the Subscribe Page dropdown menu and click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.

If you’re using any caching services, you may need to clear them in order to see the new Subscribe Page.

    Hi @shawnogordo

I cannot seem to find “Create a Subscribe Page From Template link”. I have created a new page called “Subscribe” and assigned that to be the Subscribe Page, then clicked save pages. So far, this hasn’t generated a subscribe page using your template.

Any further help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hey @dapperdan75,

You can find that setting under the “Website” tab, then scroll down to “Subscribe Page”.

    Hi @daveclements

I don’t seem to have that option. I think I have linked to a screenshot http://prnt.sc/n7kq34

Are you able to see what I’m doing wrong?

    Thanks for your help 🙂

Go to the Pages section of WordPress (not in the PowerPress settings) and look for your Subscribe Page. You can edit it like any other WordPress Page on your site.

    Hi @shawnogordo

When I do that, it just gives me a blank page – how do I generate a subscribe page using your template?

    Hello,

From your screen shot we can see you already have a “Subscribe” page, it is selected in the drop down of pages.

The term “template” is confusing, you do not edit the template, you edit the page that was created from the template. It appears at some point you may have created your own page called “Subscribe” or you may have clicked this button already and it created a subscribe page for you. Now that you have a subscribe page you do not need to create another, that is why the buttom is not there now to create another subscribe page.

If you go into WordPress > Pages and edit the page “Subscribe”, you will see the text from our template there. This text comes from our template for creating a subscribe page. You can then edit this page how you want it to read. I hope this makes sense.

If you can reply with the URL to your website, I can give you more specific directions.

    Thanks,
    Angelo

    Hi @amandato

Thank you for your response. I created the Subscribe page myself – there was never a button for me to click on to create it. Initially, I created a blank page, then went to PowerPress > Settings > Website scrolled down to the Subscribe Page dropdown menu, manually selected the blank page I had just created, then clicked Save Changes. This never populated the blank page with the text from your template, when I went to WordPress > Pages and edited the “Subscribe” page, it was still blank.

    My website is http://www.stalbanspodcast.com

I have manually added some of the PowerPress short codes (which are great, btw!) onto my blank Subscribe page but believe that a page based on your recommended template would be preferable.

On your help page it refers to a link “Create a subscribe page from template”. Whilst I now know from a previous poster that the help page in question is out of date, I have been unable to find any similar link anywhere in my installation of WordPress with PowerPress plugin.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your patience thus far. 🙂

Looks like Your Subscribe Page may be here:
    http://www.stalbanspodcast.com/subscribe/

I think what’s there is the “template” Subscribe Page function and then two instances of PowerPress Subscribe shortcodes.

If this isn’t your Subscribe Page, is it possible you have the page set to unpublished so it’s not currently active on your site?

    Hi @shawnogordo

Thanks for your reply. The subscribe page you mention is one I created myself. I typed every word onto it and added the three PowerPress short codes manually.

I only have one unpublished page on my site and that is a draft privacy policy page, automatically generated when I installed WordPress last week. The content of that is what you’d expect in a privacy policy and makes no mention of how to subscribe to a Podcast.

Is it possible that the absence of the ability to be able to generate a subscribe page based on your template is a bug? Admittedly, it has confused me that the help/support page is out of date but everything you and others have advised has not helped me to find the “Create a subscribe page from template” link.

I realise this doesn’t fix a potential bug but all I’m really after is the template text – I can manually create the page myself.

Thank you for your perseverance with this issue.

Looking again at your screenshot, you currently have the Subscribe Page dropdown menu set to your page called “Subscribe.” In other words, your page here:
    http://www.stalbanspodcast.com/subscribe/

It’s possible that since you already had created this page and added text to it, this caused the Subscribe Page to not work properly. Try this insteaD:
1.) Make a new Page and leave it blank; name it whatever you want but make sure the URL makes sense as a Subscribe Page (something like “Subscribe to Podcast”)
2.) Go back to the Website tab of PowerPress Settings and set the Subscribe Page dropdown menu to the new blank page you just created, click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page
3.) Clear any site caches, if applicable

It’s also always a good idea to make sure your core WordPress, WordPress theme, and all plugins are up to date.

If you want to create another subscribe page from our template, go to the Website tab, the drop down that has your current Subscribe page selected, click that and change it to the top most option ” – Select – “. Then click save changes. When the page re-loads, it will present you the “Create a subscribe page from Template” link since you do not have a page selected as your subscribe page.

I would suggest against this, your current subscribe page has 3 different podcasts listed on it, where-as the simple template will only create the page for your main podcast feed: http://www.stalbanspodcast.com/feed/podcast/ It will not have http://www.stalbanspodcast.com/feed/filmguide/ or http://www.stalbanspodcast.com/feed/one-to-one/.

The template is a simple way to get you started, it is by no means what you have to do. You already have a subscribe page, write what you want on this page to explain to your listeners how you want them to subscribe. If you want to just see what the text looks like before you edit it, check out our subscribe page, it is pretty close to the template: https://powerpresspodcast.com/subscribe-to-podcast/

    Hi @amandato

You’ve cracked it! By changing the option to -select- and saving it, the “Create a subscribe page from Template” link appeared.

Thank you so much for your perseverance on this – it is truly appreciated.

PS – after doing this, I noticed a typo – you have spelt “stratigy” wrong
