 * There are occasions that I need to edit a created pdf – for example, change the
   words Tax Invoice, to Receipt.
 * Whenever I try and edit one of the created documents in Adobe, I get an error
message “Adobe Acrobat has encountered an unknown error”
 * This does not happen when I open any other pde to edit – it only happens with
files created by PDF Invoices and Packing Slips.
 * Can you advise how this can be fixed?

 * Hi [@ppeople](https://wordpress.org/support/users/ppeople/),
 * I just downloaded a testing PDF invoice from my staging site, and I was able
to activate the editing mode in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC on Windows:

   Pro-DC.png?ssl=1)
 * Please try editing my testing invoice to confirm if this happens with my file
   too: [https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/04b9c92c-bce3-4252-ac6f-88c73d282fbe](https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/04b9c92c-bce3-4252-ac6f-88c73d282fbe)
 * Let me know whether you were able to edit it, or not!

 * Unfortunately I get the same error. The only workaround I have found is:
 * 1. Go to File -> Print.
 * 2. Select “Adobe PDF” as the printer.
 * 3. Click Print., and Save the PDF
 * 4. Open the new PDF.
 * Then I can make any edits as necessary. This used to work fine – it only seems
to be a recent update perhaps to the plugin that has stopped it from working

 * Thanks for the feedback, [@ppeople](https://wordpress.org/support/users/ppeople/)!

 * This will certainly help as a workaround for other users with a similar issue
   🙂

 * That’s strange, because the PDF file as such is rendered by _dompdf_, a PDF engine
which was updated several months ago, in v4.2.0 launched on March 24 this year,
   not recently.
 * That said, it would be helpful to know which version of Adobe Acrobat you are
using, and the OS you are running, to try to reproduce the issue on our side.
 * Also, I would like to mention that we offer an extension to switch the PDF engine
to _mPDF_ as an alternative to generate PDF documents. You can download the latest
   release here: [woocommerce-pdf-ips-mpdf.2.6.0.zip](https://github.com/wpovernight/woocommerce-pdf-ips-mpdf/releases/download/v2.6.0/woocommerce-pdf-ips-mpdf.2.6.0.zip)

 * Thanks for the reply. I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC v 2019.008.20071 on a PC
   running Windows 11.
 * Can you advise how I install this extension – do I upload this like a plugin?

 * This could be the reason why the document can’t be edited: You’re using a very
old version of Adobe Acrobat Pro. Actually, my version is not the latest either(
2022.002.20212), but the edition works perfectly on my side. Therefore, if you
could update to a newer version, you should be able to edit the files as well.
 * > Can you advise how I install this extension – do I upload this like a plugin?
 * That’s right! This is a plugin extension that you just need to download, install
and activate in your site. As soon as this is active, the PDF engine will be
   switched from dompdf to mPDF.
