# Cannot Edit New Custom Post Type

 * I am running latest WP and latest Divi. I just installed CPT-UI plug in and added
   a new custom post type “stories”. The post type does not show up on the Dashboard
   sidebar. I set the menu position to 60. Maybe it should have been 61, but now
   I cannot get to it to edit it. It also does not show up when I go to add/edit
   CPT-UI. It is as if it is not there. Also, when I go to Divi theme builder to
   enable it to work on custom post types, it is not there either. Yet, when I go
   back to CPT-UI and try to re-add it, it says it already exists. I have 2 other
   custom plug-ins. “projects” comes with the installation of Divi. Portfolios came
   with a theme I had previously installed and am no longer using. How do I get “
   stories” custom post type to be fully visible/available?

 * What all settings have you set for it? For example, does it show up everywhere
   you expect when you configure it at the bare minimum of the chosen slug, and 
   then the plural/singular labels?
 * Did you adjust the capability type setting at all? Perhaps leave menu position
   empty to let WP place it where it determines it should go for the moment, and
   tinker later once we know more about what’s going on.

 * Thank you, Michael.
 * I was able to create several test post types successfully with the plugin and
   they appear on the dashboard sidebar and are editable. Some I changed settings
   for and some not. They had goofy names like test2 and test3. When I added others
   with more traditional names – specifically stories and news, they don’t show 
   up yet can’t be added because they say the are already added. For news, I did
   not change the menu position as I had for stories. Yet they both weren’t added
   properly. Is it possible some earlier plug-in or theme used these custom post
   type names for something and there is a conflict? It looks like an amazing plug-
   in, if I can figure out how to make it work consistently for any post type name
   that shouldn’t already exist. Is there a way to clear all custom post types –
   except for the heirarchy I have under Projects (which is part of the Divi theme)?

 * Pages are also posts. I do have a Page named Stories and a Page named News. It
   that what is causing the problem? I cannot add a custom post type using a name
   that is a name of a Page?

 * Yes. The error messaging should be saying something along the lines of saying“
   there’s a page named ‘news’ already” or similar that is meant to help deduce 
   what’s going on. This is done because often, especially in cases where the post
   type is set to have an archive, the two would “clash”. What’s supposed to be 
   shown at`/news/` ? The page content? or the post type archive? So we try to help
   out where possible to prevent issues.
