 * I have tried everything, but cannot figure out how to log into the Tickets List
   page. I’ve created users – one as Support User and one as another type but with
   Support User as a secondary type. I registered using the Register feature. I’m
   not seeing any errors. Help!
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fcannot-log-in-authentication-failed%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * Hi [@earthnutvt](https://wordpress.org/support/users/earthnutvt/),
 * I just tested your website registration form and I see that you have moderate
   registration activated. With moderate registration, the user can’t login until
   the administrator approves the registration for the user. If you wish to disable
   it, you can go to Tickets – Settings, click on the Registration tab and change
   moderate registration with “Allow registrations”.
 * I’ll mark this thread as resolved, but please feel free to follow up any further
   questions you may have here.

 * It’s not resolved. I created a registration as the Support User user type, so
   I assume that has all the correct permissions. It shouldn’t matter if I have
   moderated registration or not. It actually sent me the user for moderation, and
   I approved it. I could still not log in with that user. The registration part
   works fine. It’s just the logging in that simply will not work.

 * It appears that the Google Captcha (reCAPTCHA) by BestWebSoft plugin is causing
   this. I obviously desire to keep that plugin as it protects my site. I’m using
   Version 3 of Captcha. Any suggestions?

 * Hi [@earthnutvt](https://wordpress.org/support/users/earthnutvt/),
 * We have integration with invisible Captcha in the Productivity add-on for Awesome
   Support. You can find out more information about how invisible Captcha works
   in the Productivity add-on:
 * – [https://getawesomesupport.com/documentation/productivity/invisible-captcha/](https://getawesomesupport.com/documentation/productivity/invisible-captcha/)
 * Also, you can find information about the Productivity add-on in the link below:

 * Regards.

 * So, you’re saying this plugin will not work as long as I am using Google Captcha
   on my login forms? Is the only way to get it to purchase that add-on? Because
   I need things in the Standard bundle, but that one feature is the only thing
   I need in that add-on. I’m a little surprised this doesn’t support captcha at
   its basic level. I mean, it won’t work at all if people can’t log in. I don’t
   think buying that add-on is worth $60 just for that one feature. I’m quite disappointed.
   I can do zero with this as long as I want my login form to be secure.

 * Hi [@earthnutvt](https://wordpress.org/support/users/earthnutvt/),
 * Let’s zero in on the issue you are having with the captcha plug-in conflicting
   with Awesome Support. Have you tried to enable debug mode in order to get more
   error message details about this problem? [https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress](https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress)
 * The suggestion above about using the built-in captcha isn’t 100% necessary, but
   just another option. The value-adds in that add-on may be a worthy trade when
   it comes to the time spent debugging the conflict.
 * Beyond that, can you tell me which version of the Captcha plug-in you are using?
 * Thanks and look forward to more information.

 * Hey [@melliesou](https://wordpress.org/support/users/melliesou/),
 * It’s not throwing any debug errors. I just get the “Authentication failed” message
   that is apparently coming from the captcha. The only users I can’t log in with
   are Support User roles. What’s interesting is that it won’t even let any Support
   User roles login in at /wp-admin without throwing the same error. Yet my other
   user types can log in just fine.
 * I’m using the latest version of the captcha plugin, which is 1.42. And I’m using
   it with Version 3 of Google Captcha.

 * Hi [@earthnutvt](https://wordpress.org/support/users/earthnutvt/),
 * That’s interesting that just the Support User has an issue with the Captcha –
   in this case, I suspect that the user-role for the support user is the issue
   here. Here is a list of how the Awesome Support roles map to different (equivalent)
   WordPress roles.
    [https://getawesomesupport.com/documentation/awesome-support/user-roles/](https://getawesomesupport.com/documentation/awesome-support/user-roles/)
   Based on the above reference, the Support User is similar to a subscriber: [https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities#Subscriber](https://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilities#Subscriber)
 * To resolve this (as it seems to be a role permissions issue), you can use the“
   Ultimate Member” plug-in to adjust the user role permissions for the “Support
   User” in order to allow them to use the Captcha properly. (It may require some
   time to review the roles and possibly some trial and error as I’m not familiar
   with the role requirements for that captcha plug-in.
 * Hope that helps, and let me know how it goes.

 * I’m not sure why this would have to do with user role permissions. Shouldn’t
   the default permissions of the Support User allow them to log into WordPress?
   I didn’t have to adjust any of my other user roles to allow them to work with
   Captcha. They just worked. Not even my admin can log into your login form. Everyone
   gets an Authentication Error when trying to log into your login form. And then
   everyone can log in with the regular WordPress login EXCEPT the Support User
   role (which is the only of your user rolls I’ve tried). This tells me that it’s
   something about your plugin that’s preventing any users from being able to access
   it. Apparently specifically due to my use of Captcha.

 * Hi [@earthnutvt](https://wordpress.org/support/users/earthnutvt/),
 * Based on the additional information you supplied in your latest message, it looks
   very much like a case of split roles. The users can either log into the regular
   site (and have permissions for it), or they can log into Awesome Support (and
   have permissions for it) – but not both at the same time. The reason for this
   scenario is that the permissions of the roles for these users are different and
   do not allow them to log into the composite places. Can you detail the permissions
   that each of the roles have (even if just two roles one in each camp). From there
   we can guide you on what’s missing.

   sure what the cp ones are, but I added them anyway.)

 * Hi [@earthnutvt](https://wordpress.org/support/users/earthnutvt/),
 * After adding those permissions to the support user’s role, is the support user
   now able to log into the site ok? And is the subscriber now able to log into
   the ticket system now?

 * Hi [@earthnutvt](https://wordpress.org/support/users/earthnutvt/),
 * Thanks for confirming that. To confirm, if the Google captcha is disabled temporarily,
   then the support user can log in, and when the Google captcha is not disabled,
   then the Support user cannot log in? When you enabled the debug log, there was
   no messages in the WordPress debug log about the reason for the authentication
   failure?
 * Given the above, do you have a test site with a similar configuration that you
   could give me access to to take a closer look?
