# Cannot Use Valid API

 * Have inherited a self-hosted WP site.
 * Can log into wp.org & .com, can go to user profile & retrieve API key.
 * Cannot install Akismet or WP stats as it says the key is already assigned, though
   the user it is assigned to is the one I use to log in.
 * Do not know of A) any other instance of WP using this key, or B) how to determine
   what/where/who such an instance may be.
 * Have searched extensively, most posts just say to re-enter the key, but neither
   plugin will allow that.
 * Any ideas?

 * Oh, sorry, when I said “inherited”, meant I’m managing the site. It’s actually
   owned by someone else, but they have nothing to do with its upkeep, that’s my
   department. It was originally built by someone else, not the owner, but the original
   creator is no longer available for consultation.
