Can't import CSV

    I have a spreadsheet of 516 customer records. They comprise the contact info of legal professionals in three categories (attorneys, process servers, court reporters). I am now using Mac so I used Numbers to export all records to a CSV to import into Business Directory.

    I set up the form fields in Business Directory, making sure they match the names of the columns in the CSV file. After the “Start Import” is completed, I get the following warning: “Missing required field: long_business_description.” So nothing is imported.

    My database does not have the following fields, which BD added to the BD database:

    long_business_description
    images
    username
    sequence_id
    expires_on

    This directory, once completed, will not need usernames or expiration dates. We are also not using a “long business description”.

    I tried adding these five fields so they would match what’s in the plugin, even though they are empty. Still not working.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Bassman1956,

    Sorry that you ran into issues here!

    When you do CSV imports, the CSV file must have a few things for it to work properly:
    1) The first row must have all of the field names in it, regardless of whether you are importing all of the fields or not
    2) The required fields must ALL have some value in them
    3) The file should have a matching separator for columns that is configured in Directory Admin->CSV Import

    Sounds like you might not have #2 quite right, but you figured out #1 on your own. The long_business_description field is not optional and can’t be made optional (WP requirement, not ours 🙁 ) So if the import is failing with that specific error, you need to put something in the field, even a space will be enough to make it work.

    The other fields aren’t all totally required–sequence_id, username and expires_on are both optional so leaving them out is fine. Username is only required if you want to assign listings to users beforehand. Images is a field you must have, but it can be empty.
