# Can’t select database error.

 * My WordPress blog was working fine this morning. Then when I tried to publish
   a post I got the following message:
 * **Can’t select database
    We were able to connect to the database server (which
   means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the bicirc_blog
   database.
 * Are you sure it exists?
    On some systems the name of your database is prefixed
   with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the
   problem?
 * A few minutes later, I was able to get back into the site and had no problem 
   posting or viewing my site. [http://www.thebinarycircumstance.com](http://www.thebinarycircumstance.com).
 * Since around 11AM (It’s 5:12pm now) I’ve only gotten that message. Readers have
   e-mailed me to say they’re getting it too.
 * When I go into phpMyAdmin, it says that I have “no databases.” It must have been
   there this morning because I was posting to it.
 * My host, Dreamhost, says they can see the database just fine on their screen.
   I think this has got to be a host problem. Does anybody have any suggestions?
 * It’s been down for six hours now.

 * Im getting the same thing. Never happened before though. Any suggestions as to
   why the database connection is being refused?

 * You might want to check with your host to see if they “upgraded” something…. 
   like MySQL or something….
 * Or double check with them to see if they had a problem with your use of bandwidth
   and shut you down?

 * There’s no reason to bump a thread after three minutes, and its definately a 
   problem on the hosts’ end, so talk to them.

 * It wasn’ t a problem with bandwidth, I’m only using about 1% of my allotment.
   Sure didn’t use much today with my site down for 7 hours.
 * It’s back up for now.
 * This was their response:
 * _Sorry about the oversight. We re-configured your mysql service, and your blog
   shows fine now. _
 * I don’t know why that took seven hours.
 * I guess if it happens again, I’ll know exactly what to ask for: “Please ‘re-configure’
   mysql service.”

 * When I asked if they knew what had caused the problem, the tech responded that
   she didn’t, only that it was a problem with the MySQL on my shared server.
    So,
   vkaryl, you may be right that they did an upgrade or changed something with the
   MySQL and just didn’t get it right. Thanks.
