Can’t select database

    I get this message

    “Can’t select database”

    “We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the justcw_wordpress database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the problem?”

    But that’s not it. I have the database set up (this is on my home machine) to match what I’m expecting on my virtual server account, which is “justcw_wordpress” and I can connect to it from the command line. I’ve got connection to the server, as it says the username and password are OK, but it won’t recognize the database.

    Anybody dealt with this?

    Perhaps I should have mentioned that this is WP 1.5, MySQL 4.0.20d, Win2k, Apache 1.3.26 and the server and database are working with other homebrewed sites.

    I just went through this exact same problem, and managed to fix it. If you are able to control your MySQL databases through your cPanel (which is what I used), make sure that the username you have set up, has the needed permissions on the database. For me, I simply missed clicking “save permissions”.

    You need to connect the user with the db.
