# Can’t select database

 * I get this message
 * “Can’t select database”
 * “We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and
   password is okay) but not able to select the justcw_wordpress database.
 *  * Are you sure it exists?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed
   with your username, so it would be like username_wordpress. Could that be the
   problem?”
 * But that’s not it. I have the database set up (this is on my home machine) to
   match what I’m expecting on my virtual server account, which is “justcw_wordpress”
   and I can connect to it from the command line. I’ve got connection to the server,
   as it says the username and password are OK, but it won’t recognize the database.
 * Anybody dealt with this?

 * Perhaps I should have mentioned that this is WP 1.5, MySQL 4.0.20d, Win2k, Apache
   1.3.26 and the server and database are working with other homebrewed sites.

 * I just went through this exact same problem, and managed to fix it. If you are
   able to control your MySQL databases through your cPanel (which is what I used),
   make sure that the username you have set up, has the needed permissions on the
   database. For me, I simply missed clicking “save permissions”.

    cpanel/
   vdeck / plesk are covered there.
 * You need to connect the user with the db.
