 * I read every single forum thread about FTP errors when updating plugins, but
nothing helped in my case. Web Hosting company also did not know the answer,
asked me to contact WP support.
 * Where it all begun. One day website went blank. Contacted hosting support and
they found an issue with a plugin timing out so they have disabled the plugins.
Website came back to live but after that cannot update plugins or WP to 3.5.2.
This is what I get: _ERROR: There was an error connecting to the server, Please
verify the settings are correct._ I am 100% sure all settings are correct.
 * Also I noticed that all files and directories permissions were set to 777. Nobody
knows who did this. I restored back to normal permissions, but that not fixed
   FTP error.

 * Have you tried deactivating ALL plugins and switching to the default WP theme(
twentytwelve) and also resetting the plugins folder by renaming it to `pluginsHOLD`
using FTP or other file manager your host provides.

 * I just tried it now. All plugins deactivated, changed to default theme twenty
twelve, renamed plugins folder. Then tried to update WP to 3.5.2, it asked for
FTP details again, entered password and got the same error message.

 * Are you using your FTP info – that’s not typically the same as your WP login
   info.
 * Also, if that does not work, you can update manually – see:
 * [http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress#Manual_Update)
 * It would be **very advisable to backup your site first**.

 * Yes, I am using the correct FTP details. I cannot imagine updating every plugin
manually, it should not be this way.

 * Unfortunately, I’m not sure how to solve this – there are various other threads
   on this question:
