Ugh… I’m so sorry. This problem is so hard to explain, lol! Let me try again… For 3 of the sidebars, the widget works properly by sorting popular posts by each of those 3 categories. But the last 5 sidebars will only show the popular posts of one category – currently, the fashion, food, life, travel and the rest sidebars are all showing the popular posts for the food category. And if I try to change them to their own categories, they automatically change back to the food category. It’s so frustrating and I don’t know what to do.
I also noticed that when I try to exit the widgets section after trying to change the category settings of your plugin, I will get the message asking if I’m sure I want to leave, indicating that something is not being saved properly, when all widgets were saved and closed.
Hi @jenjen65,
I’m not familiar with the theme nor the sidebar plugin you’re using. However, I’d say the issue is coming from either of these two and not from WPP but I won’t be able to tell for sure until I can reproduce the problem myself.
Are the theme and the sidebar plugin you’re using freely available for download? If so, could you please share the respective links so I can try them out?
Also, if you could share reproduction steps it’d help a lot (a video would be nice but not necessary if you can explain it in words as detailed as possible).
Hi Hector π
I purchased the Issue theme from ThemeForest: https://themeforest.net/item/the-issue-versatile-magazine-theme/23448818?_ga=2.100390300.369104494.1583261371-819625842.1583176565
And the custom sidebars plugin is free from WPMU DEV: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/custom-sidebars/
I have 8 main categories on my site, and 8 separate sidebars set up, one for each category. I set up each popular posts widget by category on each sidebar, checking the each one as I went, and they all showed correctly, but only because I looked at only one at a time.
My categories:
1. The News
2. The Game
3. The Fashion
4. The Fitness
5. The Food
6. The Life
7. The Travel
8. The Rest
The popular posts by category widget for the first 3 sidebars set up perfectly. What I didn’t realize was that after setting up “the fitness” popular posts widget by category for the 4th sidebar (the fitness), that it would automatically change to “the food” category when I set up the plugin for the 5th (the food) sidebar. And when I set up the 6th sidebar with widget with “the life” category, the 4th and 5th sidebar automatically changed, and so all three sidebars showed the widget with “the life” category. By the time I was finished adding the widget to all 8 sidebars, the last 5 sidebars all had the widget showing “the rest” category. the all of the sidebars, the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th all automatically changed to show the same popular post category as the 8th and last sidebar.
So I tried going in and changing the categories to what they should be, but when I changed one of them, the other 4 would all automatically change to that category.
It’s really weird, and I don’t understand how this affects just 5 sidebars.
Well, since the theme is a paid one I won’t be able to test it but I can install the Custom Sidebar plugin and see if I can replicate the issue you’re seeing. I’ll leave a comment here once I have something to report/ask (probably some time around the end of the week, I’m normally swamped with work during weekdays nowadays.)
Thank you so much Hector… you ROCK!
Hi Hector… I went back and noticed that the little link symbol was showing right before the widget title. I deleted those widgets and added them back and the links were gone, and everything works perfectly. I have no idea how that happened, but it’s all fixed now π
Awesome! Glad you were able to work it out. Thanks for letting me know!
