You got me confused for a moment there with the “recent posts” thing as that’s not what this plugin is for (actually, if you want to show recent posts you may want to consider using Recently instead.)
Regarding the category issue, are you passing the widget the name of the category instead of its ID?
No, I need to show recent post with the category of “blog”. My client’s posts are categorized. Right now it’s showing obituaries instead of showing the blog category posts.

Then using Recently might make more sense, as I suggested before. WordPress Popular Posts lists the most viewed/commented posts (depends on configuration) and so posts are not ordered by date.

Oops! I’m so sorry. I didn’t completely read your instructions under “category”. I was putting the actual category name and not the ID. It works perfect! Thank you for helping me and your quick response!
