# Causing data loss!!!

 * Even though this is supposed to replace images, it actually deletes image files!!
 * If you edit an image within the wordpress media library, wordpress creates a 
   copy of the image file and applies the changes to that copy. It keeps the original
   file in the uploads folder in order to restore the original image version later
   if necessary.
 * Now if you replace an image with this plugin, the modified version of the image
   is replaced as expected. However what is totally unexpected and in most cases
   certainly unwanted is the fact, that it deletes the original version of the image,
   that wordpress kept as backup, from the filesystem.
 * If for some reason you want to restore the original version of the image through
   the media library, you end up with an empty image, because this plugin deleted
   the file already. Also if the url of the original image was hardcoded somewhere
   in your theme files, the image of course won’t load anymore after it was deleted.
 * I know it’s a bad coding style, nevertheless that’s exactly what happened to 
   our sites when we tried to optimize image files with this plugin. Therefore I
   only can recommend not to use this software.

 * I’d like to make a couple of observations regarding your comments, as I believe
   there has been a confusion.

 * When you replace an image, we understand that you do not want the old version
   of the image. That’s the main goal of our plugin, to **replace an image**. In
   fact, the very first line of the replace screen is warning you about this (see
   [this screenshot](https://i.imgur.com/zBvioZG.png)).

   in order to get fixed.

 * My intention was to do a bug report **and** to warn other users in the same time.
   Once this is fixed, I’m happy to reconsider my rating.
