 * Hello,
 * I foolishly thought it looked straight forward to add google analytics to my
   website, so I tried to change the functions.php file and when I tried to hit ‘
   update’ it came up with the following error message:
 * Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/content/p3pnexwpnas03_data03/
   25/2407125/html/wp-content/themes/x/functions.php on line 125
 * I can’t even log into my wordpress dashboard anymore as it still just displays
   this message. HELP!
 * Website: [http://www.daniellebignell.com](http://www.daniellebignell.com)
 * Any help in fixing this file so my website will display normally again, and in
   helping me to install google analytics would be GREATLY appreciated…..
 * Danielle

 * Access your server via [FTP or SFTP](https://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients),
   navigate to `/wp-content/themes/` and rename the directory of your currently
   active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and you’ll be able
   to access your site.
 * Alternatively, while you’re there in FTP or SFTP, just use a [plain text editor](https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_Files#Using_Text_Editors)
   to edit the file.

 * Thank you James. I should’ve mentioned i’m a COMPLETE novice.
 * How would I access my site via FTP?
 * The theme I’m using is a purchased theme (X by Themeforest) – not sure how I
   actually rename it but I’ll take a look once I can get in there and hopefully
   work it out!

 * You’ll need an FTP client first. Some details and recommendations at [https://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients](https://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients)
 * Next, you’ll get FTP access through your hosting provider. They’ll probably have
   some documentation, otherwise contact them for further instructions.
