 * Is there some reason that ALL OF MY PHP and CSS changes have been completely
eliminated since the latest WordPress update, and that when I change them back(
because I thankfully had the good sense to save them in Word documents) they
are changed back to the original files within a matter of hours? This is absolutely
ridiculous; it is causing me and my client a LOT of stress, in addition to a
lot of money (them) and personal time (me). Do I simply revert back to the old
version of WordPress, or is there another reason for these changes?

 * Hi Hillary, that definitely doesn’t sound normal.
 * First of all, theme and WordPress updates are normally separate, so updating
WordPress core should not affect your theme.

 * Are you making changes directly to the Sela theme files?
 * If you’re making changes directly to the Sela theme files, they will be overwritten
every time you update the theme itself. (Again, theme updates are separate from
core WordPress updates.) The best way to make changes to a theme is to use a
child theme, so your tweaks won’t be overwritten when updating the theme. Here
are some guides in case you haven’t made one before:

 * Sela does not update itself automatically, unless you have specifically activated
automatic theme updates in your install. I’d suggest you check the site’s configuration
in wp-config to make sure you don’t have automated theme updates set up, and
also to create a child theme if you haven’t already.
