# Changing Permalinks Problem

 * Hi All,
 * First off, congrats on wordpress 4.0! Anyways, my site [http://amigossports.com](http://amigossports.com),
   has the default permalink structure.
 * [http://amigossports.com/?p=123](http://amigossports.com/?p=123)
 * I want to change it to
 * [http://amigossports.com/%year%/%postname%/](http://amigossports.com/%year%/%postname%/)
 * I tried just doing it via the backend and clicking update, but then all of our
   articles went to 404’s, even though the permalink looked right when I clicked
   on the article.
 * TYVM,

 * P.S. I really am terrible at coding, so if I need to code I need specific instructions
   because I am very new to it 🙂 Thank You

 * Same here….I have two sites running on an Ubuntu server. One the permalinks work
   fine. The second permalinks only work with the default nothing else.
 * .htaccess is writeable….driving me nuts.

 * Any solution for you? My site is rather small, so if we change them it won’t 
   be a big SEO loss, but if the article goes to a 404, which is does, then its 
   useless.

 * Thanks for the tip, I read it and thats where I got the idea to change my permalinks.
   I still don’t know why I get 404’s when I switch it
