 * I have been trying for two days to access the administration section of my blog.(
   It’s my own fault, but that’s another story.) I have had a lot of input but still
   haven’t learned how to get in.
 * What I was wondering is if I can change the theme, since that’s what I messed
   up, from somewhere outside the administration section, maybe through the phpadmin
   or the hosting admin or the FTP?
 * I am keeping my fingers crossed that there is a way. I am a firm believer in
   the old saying ‘there’s more than one way to skin a rabbit.”

 * what are you trying to achieve by changing your theme? Doing that isnt going
   to assist you with getting into your wp-admin area.
 * You dont even elaborate on what the result is of your attempts.. and you didnt
   elaborate in your other thread either, so please dont point me there.
 * you get a message?
    you dont get a message? you get redirected? you dont get
   redirected?
 * what happens after you try to login, be **specific**.

 * You can ‘change themes’ by using FTP to remove the theme you mucked up and with
   some luck (I never tried) the blog goes back to default (if that isn’t the one
   you mucked up though). But then again, do you think that would help you with
   your admin section? There are some good questions above that you could also just
   answer first.

 * I can’t login because I CAN’T ACCESS the administration section. Everything is
   find for the reader, which I DID say in my other thread, but when you try to
   go into the administration section, either by trying to edit a post, or by clicking
   on Site Admin, the screen says this.
 * Not Found
 * The requested URL http:// was not found on this server.
 * And I DID post the link to the blog in the other thread, and I DID elaborate,
   quite a bit. So you don’t have to be so facetious. All I am trying to do is get
   back into my blog and I thought maybe this was the place to learn how to.

 * It doesn’t work too well to have information in two threads Dgrier, but then
   again, did you read my answer and did you try to ‘FTP’ to your server and see
   if there’s anything fishy? (And if you think deleting the theme could help, you
   can that there as well.)

 * I did read your answer, but I don’t know how to change themes in the FTP and
   I also don’t know how to view my blog there. I am a green when it comes to all
   this stuff, but I am trying to learn.

 * dgrier,
 * so you go here:
 * [http://internetmarketingreview.org/blog2/wp-login.php](http://internetmarketingreview.org/blog2/wp-login.php)
 * and what happens? You get an error after you have entered your login info?

 * The requested URL http:// was not found on this server.
 * That is what I get. I never get the chance to login. The screen goes straight
   to this message when I access the URL

 * oh, and :
 * > but I don’t know how to change themes in the FTP and I also don’t know how
   > to view my blog there.
 * You were given directions on how to do that inside this thread.
 * You do not “view” your blog there, you view the files. You uploaded a theme,
   you delete it the same way you uploaded it — using your ftp client. However thats
   not going to fix your problem IF you are seeing an error after you put in your
   login credentials.
 * IF, on the other hand, you just cant find where you login, its in the right sidebar
   of your current theme. It says “login” and its right under the big Meta in your
   sidebar.

 * this is what you see, correct?
 * [http://blog2.internetmarketingreview.org/wp-admin/](http://blog2.internetmarketingreview.org/wp-admin/)
 * As Ive stated, changing your theme is not going to solve that.
 * Since your login.php page has no styles and the above is a 404, as well as this:
 * [http://internetmarketingreview.org/blog2/wp-admin/wp-includes/](http://internetmarketingreview.org/blog2/wp-admin/wp-includes/)
 * you need to insure that that directory does exist, and that the necessary files
   are inside the directories.
    ** You do that using an ftp client.

 * no im not joking. Ive spent three years on these forums. Do you know how many
   times thats actually been an issue?
 * Look, you dont want help thats fine — so far, all you have been is a jerk to
   someone (me) thats poked around on your site far more than I ever needed to —
 * YOU could have simply linked to the page with the 404 — the ONE i linked to.
   I asked for more info, politely.. you scoffed and didnt really add anything.
   Consequently, I had to do the work that you could have easily had just provided.
 * You wanna be a jerk? fine.. but save it for someone in real life — the people
   here are doing you a favor and arent the source of your problems.
 * Ive answered your questions and told you what you need to do — you want more
   info (from me at least) you will need to learn to be polite.

 * She _does_ help you know, so no need to get a temper.
 * Anyway, your theme is not the problem, so forget everything I said about that.
   What I _do_ notice is that your login screen has no css, so my guess it, that
   you don’t have all WP files on your server. This can also explain the other mistake.
 * So… back to that FTP story.
 * How did you put the WP files on your server. With an FTP program or otherwise?
 *  Thread Starter [dgrier](https://wordpress.org/support/users/dgrier/)

 * [17 years, 12 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/changing-theme-without-access-to-admin/#post-787171)
 * I have been using the FTP program for a year or so. I DO know a little bit, much
   more than you understand, actually, because I want to know, learning this stuff
   is interesting. That’s why it made me mad that someone thinks I don’t even know
   where to login to my blog on the site. I am not one of those people. I guess
   you could consider me a novice, but I even am learning how to hack, and successfully.
   That is what got me in trouble.
 * I am not upset, and I DO need help, but please don’t patronize. I am sincerely
   trying to GET this stuff.
 * Ok, in answer to your question Gangleri, I have had that theme for a long time,
   and I agree that the theme is not the problem. I am simply trying to figure out
   a way to get into the blog. Period. Forget everything else, or how it got that
   way, how do I get back in?
 * I use the FTP to upload everything to my blog’s files. When I couldn’t get into
   this particular blog I uploaded a new version of the theme, as I was told to
   do in the other thread, and replaced the function file with the new one. I thought
   that would do the trick, but it didn’t
 * I don’t understand why there would be no css. The css file is in the theme files
   in the FTP. I just went and looked to make sure.
 * Is there anyway that someone can look at my FTP? I mean, how do you let them?

 * My guess is that when you FTP to your server and look at the root of your blog
   directory, you will have fewer files there than in the root of the upzipped WP
   download on your computer. First try (re)uploading those files in the root of
   WP. That may bring back some functionalities. Perhaps you even just want to (
   re)upload your entire WP pack and when you’re at it, why not upload the latest
   version (click on the red button above this forum), I mean 2.0.2….!

 * I have already re-uploaded the latest version of WordPress since this happened.
 * But as far as the rest of what you told me, I don’t know how to do any of it.
   I don’t know how to FTP to server, I don’t know what the root of my blog directory
   means or where to find it, or the root of the unzipped WP on my computer. I don’t
   know what the root is at all, the meaning of it or what to look for.
 * I can try re-uploading the new version of WP again. When it asks me what I want
   to do, replace, merge, etc, what do I say?
