• Hello,

I was testing the checkout path after finally setting the whole GTM and I found one strange anomaly.

When I add a product to cart and then go to the /cart page, Checkout Step #1 is pushed. I click proceed and on /checkout Checkout Step #2 is pushed. So far so good. But then I fill in all the billing details, click shipping address and enter all details, no step pushed to GTM now. Then I select shipping method, Checkout Option #4 is pushed, payment method pushes Checkout Option #5.

Where did the #3 go? When I click Place order, it doesn’t push anything more to GTM, only Purchase event on /thank-you page.

I tried both with Cart as 1st step ON and OFF. It alters numbers 1 down, but still there is that step missing.

I know something similar was asked already here, but I couldn’t continue there:

    UPDATE:
so it seems the Step #3 works, somewhere .. it’s just me who can’t trigger it? πŸ˜€ Anyways, I have 8 times #3 in Analytics (and 65x #2 + 53x #4) so it somehow works.

If possible, could somebody shed some light on this? When does the #3 Step triggers?

I’m having the same issue. I can’t figure out when Step #3 (step 2 when you don’t turn on the “Cart as 1st checkout step) is firing. According Thomas in another forum post (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/gtm4wp-checkoutoptioneec-is-tracking-as-wrong-step/) The step is:

“When a user leaves a shipping data field that has a value entered, step 2 will be reported (only once, so not each time a shipping data is entered)”

Can somebody maybe give an example of this step or share a screenshot of this step?

    Hi @morvy ,

    This is strange.
Step 3 should fire anytime you fill in a field in any shipping data and exit the field while you left any data in it.

If you can post the URL of your site, I can check whether it shows up for me.

@rolfvanes the same applies for you as well, without the site URL I can not tell you any reason for that

    Hi @duracelltomi ,

found the issue .. the event is not triggered, when the shipping fields are filled in with autofill. It just doesn’t know it was filled in. When I enter data manually, it works fine.

Hi, I tested last days also, and I found exactly the same as @morvy

    e.g.

User logged in (with shippind adress saved in the account)

Pick up some product, then arrives checkout, Field data autoffiled, then only checks “ship to different adress” checkbox, autmatically all shippind data are autofilled (without enter manually data in shippind fields ) Then purchase.

I think, plugin in this situation must send also Step 3, bud doesn’t.

    thank you

Yes indeed, I have experienced the same.

In most cases client only fill in the billing details and don’t swich on the option: Ship to a different adress, zo step 3 wouldn’t fire at all.

    Hi Everyone,

I am using the latest Chrome and I can see the checkout step event when I fill in shipping data using autofill:

    Are you using Firefox?

    Hi Thomas,

    Very strange πŸ™‚

Only for confirm I have the following question: Your Step2 in the screenshot, belong to shipping fields step or begin checkout step?

( Because of course you know step 2 could be: begin checkout step or shipping fields step, depending on your plugin’s config )

Anyway, I already tested both in Chrome, and the checkout step event not fired when using autofill.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

My screenshot was taken while autofilling the shipping data section.
Billing data fields do not fire a checkout step since the first step is reported during pageload, not by filling in any billing data.

    Hello Thomas,

I already tested in fresh installation: Woocommerce + Storefront theme, and regarding Google tagmanager preview mode, no event fired when click checkbox and autofill happens.

Could you test from your side in this site ?

    Thank you

Hello again, and sorry for the long time…

Thomas, I don’t understand why you could see the event and me not,

I simply logged in and click the checkbox and fields are autofilled…

Really is not a problem but scheming…

I recorded a little video, you could play and check in real time the events fired in that debugger on the right side..

    VIDEO

    Am i missing something ?

    Thank you again,
