Hmm, the icon you’re referring to seems to be “Paste from Word”, not the “Remove styles” one.

Exactly, on the Visual editor page, if you hover over the ‘W’ icon it shows ‘Cleanup messy code’ and ‘Paste from Word’ has a dashicon.
On the Settings page, for ‘Paste from Word’ you still have the old ‘W’ icon and the ‘Cleanup messy code’ has a ‘brush’ icon.

    Andrew,
Congratulations on the new version 4.0.1. It seems to work well in WordPress 3.9 and cleans up some of the icon variations. Could you please confirm if the ‘Cleanup messy code’ function is deprecated or does it just have a new icon?

Thanks 🙂 Seems it doesn’t exist in TinyMCE any more. Switching Visual to Text and back or clicking the “Clear formatting” button has somewhat similar effect.

Andrew, the switching back and forth didn’t work, but the ‘Clear formatting’ does. I have a site with a lot of images on the pages. On some pages, changes such as to line spacing can break the page and all the images reduce to small empty borders. The old ‘Cleanup messy code’ always saved the day, now ‘Clear formatting’ does the trick. Thank you. 🙂
