Just to clarify, if you make changes to things like the app’s name, short name, or icons, they currently won’t trigger an update on Android Chrome or iOS Safari. Only updates to things like background color, display, orientation, scope, shortcuts, start_url, or theme color actually make the PWA refresh.
On Android, if a valid change is detected, the PWA usually starts updating within 24 hours. But this happens only after the app is closed, and the device is plugged in and connected to WiFi. Chrome will then request an updated version of the app in the background. If Chrome can’t access your manifest file for example, if the file is missing or there’s a server issue, it may wait up to 30 days before checking again.
