 * I started my site with Hostgator in 2021 and paid for their Codeguard service
to back up every day. It is mainly nature and animals and plants in photographic
galleries. In 2023, I had a problem and was advised to backup before doing anything
and check CodeGuard status. I found that I’d received no notification that it
hadn’t been backed up since 2021 as it was over 3G and I only had coverage for
1G. I immediately paid to upgrade to 5G. Next day I got a notification from Codeguard
that my site was over 8G and couldn’t be backed up. Over the next several weeks
I deleted tens of thousands of pictures and moved to another site without such
limits. Where I would have a gallery with perhaps dozens of pictures of eagles,
it was replaced by one shot with a link to the others. When I got to the point
of showing that it was only about 4.5G, I stopped deleting, leaving some galleries
with what they had. There was a backup shown the next day, maybe the 1st since
the beginning. Since then I had hardly added anything to the site, maybe a couple
dozen jpgs well under 1meg each. So I recently got to the point where I was going
to do something risky and felt I was covered by the backup. But the Hostgator
checked with the Codeguard and said it hadn’t been backed up since April one
as it was over 7G. I couldn’t believe how deleting thousands of files to go from
over 8G to under 5G, and then doing almost nothing more could get it back up
to over 7G. I have not been able to contact this Codeguard that doesn’t even
send warnings that you are paying for nothing. An email came back undeliverable.
I searched on Google and thought I found it, but then the woman said she was
Bluehost that just used Codeguard. She gave me what she said was their number
and I called and a woman went on rattling on about a medical device, non-stop
while I kept asking if this was Codeguard. I thought it was an automaton but
finally she ceased and I asked again, and she again started on about the device
and I hung up. So does anyone else know about this Codeguard and what could keep
increasing the size of a website without adding anything?

 * You’ll really need to contact CodeGuard about this, we have no control over them.
 * Or, try a different backup method, they’re far from the only option: [https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/wordpress-backups/](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/wordpress-backups/)

 * It’s seeming like Codeguard is phony as they have no way of being contacted about
anything, such as why each time I pay more to get to the next level,, I exceed
   it without adding anything.
 * So I was looking at the backups in the article and it said do an SQL backup from
CPanel. there were 2 files there, but together they didn’t even total 1 megabyte.
It didn’t say to download the home directory backup but I did anyway and it was
a very large multigig file. So the directions on the site seem pretty incomplete
and maybe I can get more advice here before I lose my whole site due to incomplete
   or incorrect procedures.

 * I have used the plugin UpDrafts Plus to create quick backups. [https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/)

 * It sounds like you skipped to the database backup step and missed the whole site
   backup step: [https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/wordpress-backups/#backing-up-your-wordpress-site](https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/wordpress-backups/#backing-up-your-wordpress-site)
 * There are also many backup plugins, linked to from that doc, if you’d rather
   not do it manually: [https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/backup/](https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/backup/)
