# Comment Count Multiplying

 * Hi,
    I’m running WP 2.7.1 and am having an issue with the comment count. Basically,
   when a non-registered user (which is everyone but the two admins) posts a comment,
   the comment count goes haywire.
 * If you look at this post, you can see it showing a count of 441 comments: [http://lifespotlight.com/health/2009/03/16/selling-ill-health-real-foods-fake-foods/](http://lifespotlight.com/health/2009/03/16/selling-ill-health-real-foods-fake-foods/)
   But the actual comment count is about 1/10 of that. If I were to post a comment,
   it would reset the comment count to be what it should be, but as soon as a guest
   posts again, it shoots back up.
 * A query against the database returns that there are actually 49 comments on this
   post, which means it’s multiplying by 9 for some reason.
 * I’m not sure if the issue is in my theme or in a WP file. Any ideas on where 
   to start?

 * Another oddity…the “multiplier” is different on different posts.

 * Anyone experience anything similar? I’ve looked through the comments.php, wp-
   comments.php, etc and can’t see any reason it would be doing this, nor have I
   touched any of those files.
