# Comment Numbers alignment

 * Hi There ~
 * I would like my customized numbers (created with .commentid in my css) for each
   comment to float to the left “outside” the corresponding boxed comment.
 * The numbers are there but doing some wonky alignment things especially in IE 
   where #1 is outside and the rest of the numbers are inside the boxes.
 * In firefox the numbers are all outside but they affect the width of the comments
   boxes making them different sizes.
 * I have read every post and article I could find on containing floats [http://www.complexspiral.com/publications/containing-floats/](http://www.complexspiral.com/publications/containing-floats/)
   
   aligning comment numbers etc. I have tried validating my site but I’m not getting
   it.

 * I could still use some help with this problem.
 * added a clearer
    `<div class="commentid"><?php echo $comment_count; ?></div> 
   <div class="clearer">&nbsp;</div> after my commentid which sort of fixed the 
   comment box problem in firefox, although i would prefer the numbers next to the
   boxes instead of above them. But it’s still a complete mess in IE.
 * I’d really appreciate any suggestions even just something to get my mind thinking
   in a different direction as I’ve been trying to tackle this problem for three
   days now and am very muddled.
