# Comment processing is slow

 * We’ve noticed that it’s taking 30 seconds sometimes to add a comment or respond
   to a comment after clicking submit.
 * Trying to do a search here or on the internet gets me way too many generic topics
   about comments from the codex and such. So I’ll ask here… would anyone have some
   answers as to why a comment submission would take so long on a site?

 * The times that I’ve seen commenting beign slow it’s been the cause of either 
   or both of these:
    1. Comment SPAM filtering (eg: Akismet). This happens due to the processing locally
       and remotely that’s done.
    2. Email generation. Some hosts and servers take a long time for email messages
       to be created and sent.
 * There’s also other reasons outside of these, but these are the most likely culprits.
