I upgraded to Contact Form 7 version 5.5.6 yesterday and since I did this, comments don’t display on my site. Everything else works (ie the comments form displays on the page, comments go into a database, I get emailed when users post them, new comments can be added etc). But instead of showing approved comments below the post they were made on, Contact Form 7 now just displays a message about how many approved comments were made on that post (eg: 2 Responses to “Diners Celebrate First Birthday”). I’ve looked everywhere for a solution to this, but come up empty-handed. Can anyone suggest a possible fix? Thank you.

The Contact Form 7 plugin has nothing to do with this comment issue, but I try to help.

What other plugins and theme do you use on the site?

The theme I use comes from Gabfire and Contact Form 7 worked with it perfectly until I updated to the latest 5.5.6 release.

At the same time I updated Contact Form 7, though, I also updated All-in-One WP Migration and Wordfence Security.

Other plugins I use on the site are AdRotate, Akismet, the Classic Editor (ie WordPress), Gabfire Widget Pack, Heartbeat Control by WP Rocket,
Relevanssi, Social Snap, SSL Insecure Content Fixer and Yoast SEO.

Thank you for your thoughts on this, Takayuki

Try switching to the default theme, deactivating all plugins excluding Contact Form 7, Wordfence Security, Akismet and Yoast SEO, and clearing all cache data.

Thank you Takayuki – it turned out that a plugin upgrade I installed rewrote some code in the site, and it was this action that caused the problem. It’s now fixed, but I appreciate your help.
