# Comments Error, may be a plugin

 * I got the following message by e-mail from a visitor today:
 * > Hi there – I was just trying to comment on a blog post on your site when I 
   > was confronted by this message:
   > “Error: This file cannot be used on its own.”
   > It is in/on the “wp-comments-post.php” file after a comment submission..
 * I’m not sure what’s going on, but I think it has to do with one of the spam plugins
   I’m using, the two are Bad Behavior and lr2spam.

 * That is a standard WordPress error. It means that the individual (usually a spam
   bot) tried to post a comment (usually spam) by visiting `wp-comments-post.php`
   directly (without going through a post and a comment form first).
 * I had no problem commenting on your most recent post as testuser8, so I don’t
   think that this has anything to do with your blog. Ask the visitor what browser
   he or she was using at the time.

 * That’s what I thought. Thanks, I’ll look into what the user was doing and let
   you know. Now my concern is if, through regular use, or through RSS, my visitor
   was directed to wp-comments-post directly, or if submitting the comment served
   up the file incorrectly.
