# Complete Walkthrough Tutorial Question

 * I am trying to work my way through the tutorial on adding “styles”. Specifically,
   I am looking at the page called “creating-custom-event-search-attributes”, and
   I just don’t get it. What are “custom event search attributes” and what do they
   have to do with “styles”.
 * Maybe I am confused by the word “styles”. The following paragraph is quoted from
   the tutorial.
 * “In this sample project, we are going to add a new plugin called “Styles”, which
   will allow users to assign certain styles to an Event via a drop-down menu. This
   functionality effectively gives you the same as event categories, but serves 
   as a great way to show how easy it is to connect to all aspects of this plugin.”
 * When I read the first sentence I get the impression that this is talking about
   CSS styling. But the second sentence equates styles with categories. So now I
   am wondering if “style” is like “formal” -vs- “casual”, or something.
 * Bottom line, I have two questions:
    – What does “styles” mean in this context?–
   What does “search attributes” mean?

 * In this context, styles has nothing to do with CSS – it’s meant more as a tag/
   category.
 * By search attributes, the tutorial means these:
    [http://wp-events-plugin.com/documentation/event-search-attributes/](http://wp-events-plugin.com/documentation/event-search-attributes/)
 * That is, the attributes that can be used in shortcodes, etc. to help filter output.

 * Thanks. It helps, but I am still perplexed as to why anyone would call a tag/
   category sort of thing “styles”. If I asked someone “what style of event did 
   you attend”, I am sure I would get a blank stare.

 * Yeah. It was obviously naive of me to think the word “style” has something to
   do with its English meaning, or cascading style sheets for that matter. 😀
