Per the FAQ there’s nothing either of us can do about it until WordPress adds the necessary hooks in the admin area.
True, this is a sad fact indeed.
Helga, if you’re interested in collaborating, I’d like to try to integrate Menu Item Custom Fields in your plugin so our plugins can co-exist. This is actually why I released MICF as a separate plugin 🙂
Does Nav Menu Roles have a GitHub repo I can send a pull request to?
I’d say you could lend your voice to this trac ticket:
https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/ticket/18584
But since it is 3 years old, it clearly isn’t moving very quickly. Supposedly, this is the hold up:
https://core.trac.ww.wp.xz.cn/ticket/14134
So if you can solve that we’ll be golden! 🙂
Please see Workaround #1 in the FAQ and send it to the Menu Item Custom Fields developers if it is still a problem. They might already have adopted that it and I just wasn’t aware.
Hey guys,
I’ve just updated Menu Item Custom Fields & Menu Icons and now they should play nice with Nav Menu Roles & other plugins that follow the workaround #1.
Great! Thanks Dzkiri. I will update the readme when I can. Menus are going to eventually be handled by the customizer, but I’ve been assured there will be appropriate hooks for extending it. The current workaround probably won’t work then, but for now it is a great compromise and lets our various plugins work together.
