Hi, for several months I have continuous problems with some sitemap of my website created with your plugin.

Some sitemaps generate this error, even the Google Search Console detects these problems:
“This page contains the following errors:
error on line 1 at column 95: Extra content at the end of the document ”

If I see the source code of the non-working sitemap, line 1 returns this string (note that it is the same code repeated several times):

    <input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” /><input type=”hidden” id=”name_of_nonce_field” name=”name_of_nonce_field” value=”7231a3e4ef” /><input type=”hidden” name=”_wp_http_referer” value=”/post-sitemap.xml” />

If you update the page (F5) the problem disappears and the sitemap is displayed correctly, but only temporarily. If I come back soon after to see the sitemap I have the problem again.

    Thank you.

Have you fixed the issue in the meantime? I’ve checked your XML Sitemap multiple times, from multiple browsers and could never experience the issue which you have mentioned.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

No, I did not solve the problem, I’m still looking for a solution.

The problem is not the sitemap_index but the sitemaps that are inside it (especially post-sitemap and page-sitemap). Same problem for both sitemaps.

The problem is that the error is not always repeatable in the same way, sometimes it occurs and sometimes not.

The error is always in line one, as reported in my first post.

Also from the Google Search Console in the last period I noticed a constant and considerable drop of indexed images, and I do not understand why.

    Thank you.

We checked both the page-sitemap.xml and post-sitemap.xml and were still unable to replicate the issue as you described, as neither page’s source contained the additional code you referenced.

Can you please confirm whether the issues persists after performing a conflict check to ensure that another plugin or theme is not interfering and adding the additional code? We have a guide on performing a conflict check here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts
