 * I am evaluating this plugin and it seems like it should do what I want, but I
can not seem to get it setup correctly.
 * My main goal is to allow contributors to ONLY edit a custom post type. I see
the custom post type under the editing menu when contributor is selected, but
   there are two issues.
    1. Unless I also have edit checked for posts the user isn’t even allowed to enter
       the adin
    2. Enabling edit for posts and “the custom post type” allows the user to access
the menu, but edit is not visible for the custom post type. Only for the traditional
       posts .
 * Thank you for any help.

 * Hi [@anotherwallace](https://wordpress.org/support/users/anotherwallace/)
 * Could you please give us more detail on it? Because I can’t replicate your issue.

I tried creating new post type using Pods plugin and it works fine. I set it
   like this: [https://i.imgur.com/6qdN9if.png](https://i.imgur.com/6qdN9if.png)
 * What plugin that you use for creating post type?

 * I see from that image that you are on the “Author” section. If you change that
to contributor and only select edit are you able to log into the admin and only
   edit the Wista post types?

 * Did you use Contributor from default WordPress role or you create custom role
   for that?

 * Can you try create new role by copy another role instead? For example, try copy“
   Author” : [https://i.imgur.com/gJjJ5mr.png](https://i.imgur.com/gJjJ5mr.png)

 * Same thing. As soon as I remove the traditional “post” type that user can no
longer access the admin area in any way. Not through /wp-admin nor through a
direct link to edit the post type.

 * That is quite strange. Does this also happens when you deactivate all plugins
   except PublishPress?

 * I have deactivated all plugins except yours and the custom post type; even the
theme plugins, and it still tells me that I do not have access to edit the custom
post type. I’m assuming you are modifying or replacing the current_user_can function.
Perhaps you can direct me to this area of your code base so I can understand
   the problem better?

 * Actually, I forgot 1 thing. Do you have read permission on admin already? Check
   this: [https://i.imgur.com/6L94R1T.png](https://i.imgur.com/6L94R1T.png)
