# CPU Usage spike when editing WordPress

 * My client’s site was suspended for hogging all the resources. I activated CloudFlare
   to cut down on attacks, and this seemed to help a lot. I also installed WordFence
   for more security against brute force attacks. Over night, things were nice and
   quiet.
 * Today though, we logged into WordPress to edit the site, and things spiked again.
   My client logged out and the usage dropped. Twenty minutes later, I logged in
   and usage spiked. I logged out and it’s dropped again.
 * What could be causing this? I’m worried about malware as they didn’t have a lot
   of security before this. But isn’t it strange that it only seems to be happening
   when we’re logged in? Any ideas?
 * The site is pacifichepc.org and pacifichepc.org/hepctip/ (two WordPress installs).

 * Outside of malware, spikes can also be caused by resource intensive plugins or
   themes – or a combination of the two. To test for that, try deactivating plugins
   you have installed and see if the resource spike disappears. If it does, you 
   will know the culprit.
 * There are also performance monitoring plugins you can try to see where the issue
