Creating a site without hosting

Hi everybody,

First of all, I’m completely new to ww.wp.xz.cn. I’ve been running a wordpress.com site for about a year, and I’m ready to have more control over my site.

The problem is that I know literally nothing about this stuff. So, I want to try creating my site before I start paying for web hosting. If anyone could help me do this with very specific directions I’d really appreciate it.
