CSS not working

Hi I just paid $24.00 to be able to use css on my website. Well they don’t seem to be working.If I apply an inline style it does not affect the page at all. Same thing if I type the style in the customization window that shows up. Very strange, also some basic html tags don’t work like <p> or <divs>. Any idea? Thanks.
