    Hello,

I installed YoastSEO and when I click on see XML sitemap, it actually shows several. I recognize some of them from plug ins.
    post-sitemap.xml
    page-sitemap.xml
    attachment-sitmap.xml
    form-maker-sitemap.xml
    gs_testimonials-sitemap.mxls
    category-sitemap.xmls
    post_tag-sitemap.xmls
    author-sitemap.xml

So if I went to the google Search console, I would submit all of them? Same for Bing webmaster?

Are there any others I should consider? I am in the US so I don’t think I need to be on the yandex or Baidu do I?

  • Hello,

What the Yoast SEO plugin gives you is the sitemap index file. It’s like a master sitemap that contains all the individual sitemaps for various sections and post types on your site.

Just give Google the single sitemap index file generated by Google… Google will automatically fetch all the individual sitemaps under it.

If for some reason you don’t want to submit a particular sitemap (now or later), you should be able to turn it off inside Yoast, and it will be taken from the index or master sitemap.

Same for Bing and any other search engine you choose to submit your sitemap to.

    Good luck!

Thanks – sorry, I know nothing about sitemaps. I think you suggest giving the single sitemap index file. How do I get that?

    Here is how 😀

I installed YoastSEO and when I click on see XML sitemap,

That Yoast sitemap link you clicked on is the sitemap index file. Right-click on the link to copy the URL, or if you click on it, copy the URL in your browser’s address bar.

    It’s usually something like https://www.example.com/sitemap_index.xml
