# Custom 404 Does Not Save Changes!

 * I have now edited the 404.php file in the Twenty Ten theme twice. Each time I
   saved changes, then manually entered a known bad URL for my site. The correct
   edited 404 page came up.
 * Each time, the changes have been lost. A couple of days later I go back to my
   site, look at the 404 page and it is back to its default state.
 * What could possibly cause this page to revert to the original?
 * The only theme I have is the default TwentyTen.

 * Did you upgrade to 3.0.1? That would do it.
 * Don’t make changes to the default theme directly. Instead you should make a child
   theme and change that. It will NEVER get overwritten.

 * actually, this happened *before* I upgraded to 3.0.1

 * Did you upgrade the 2010 theme? I know a release came out a bit before 3.0.1 …
   Or I thought it did.
