Custom date Format doesn't change

    I am making a catalogue of paintings with a blog post for each one. In the general setting I have set the date to custom because I only want the year the painting was made to show. I set that to Y and it shows 2014 next to it which is what I want but I am still getting the standard full date format. Nothing is cached yet. Is this coming from my theme?
