# Custom permalink structures

 * I’ve changed the permalink structure to:
    `/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%`
 * Is it possible to put “.html” on the end, for cosmetic reasons?

 * Many thanks for the reply but that doesn’t appear to work.
 * The text that I now have in the custom structure is:
    /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%
   postname%.html
 * but no .html appears on the end of the URI.
 * What could be the problem?

 * Was WordPress able to automatically update the `.htaccess` file after you saved,
   or did it provide manual instructions?

 * WordPress was able to automatically update the .htaccess file after I saved.
 * If I click on any of the common settings, the changes are implemented, it’s only
   the .html that doesn’t show up at the end of the custom structure.

 * Well, it looks right.
 * Now I’m wondering if a plugin or theme is interfering.
 * Try temporarily deactivating all plugins, switch to the Twenty Ten theme, and
   save your permalink structure again.
 * If that works, you should be safe to re-activate your plugins and switch your
   theme back.

 * Thanks again for the reply.
 * I’ve deactivated all plugins and switched back to the twenty ten theme. I then
   saved the permalink structure but still didn’t work.
 * I also cleared the browser cache and then tried changing to IE just in case it
   was a browser issue – but to no effect.
 * Any ideas?

 * No, I think I’m fresh out of ideas. 🙁
 * Are you using any caching plugins at all? If so, you sometimes have to delete
   the cache directory after deactivating the plugin.
