 * Is it possible to set a separate setting for a custom post type or is it ruled
   by the page/post setting?

 * Imsanity only has the three settings available, so it would not be feasible to
customize them beyond that. I believe a custom post type would probably fall
under the page/post setting, but it might also fall under the “elsewhere” setting
too, depending on what POST parameters are submitted with the upload.
 * If you want more flexibility, you could use EWWW Image Optimizer, which will
allow you to write your own custom filters: [https://ewww.io/2016/07/05/changing-the-dimensions-for-resizing-images/](https://ewww.io/2016/07/05/changing-the-dimensions-for-resizing-images/)
