# Custom Sidebars – WPMU DEV Issues

 * I want to commence with saying that the concept for the plugin is great.
 * The execution by WPMU DEV is what let’s it down.
 * One only has to look at the issues the plugin creates when it is activated.
 * In my case, while the custom sidebars work great, there are multiple other issues.
 * For example, I run a second admin (login and pw) on the site. It works perfectly
   when the plugin is deactivated but when active, it continually
 * logs us out.
 * I can see good old Bojan Radonic (WPMU DEV Support) defending it saying he can
   never recreate an issue but the fact remains, user after user has
 * accessibility issues caused by this plugin.
 * Time and time again we read:
    Everything works fine unless I activate custom
   sidebars. Custom Sidebar causing Conflict with Zen4WP Getting a PHP warning related
   to this plugin PHP Warning: Missing argument 2 for apply_filters() -line 177
   Cannot send session cache limiter – headers already sent in
 * Something that does make us laugh is Bojan saying the issue is with a theme and
   not the plugin. Amazing how many users had perfectly working
 * themes and sites until this plugin was activated.
 * The reality is, most users admit defeat and simply deactivate the plugin.
 * WPMU DEV needs to fix the plugin, not the hundreds of broken sites.
 * Personally, I’d like to see WPMU DEV show us 50 operational web sites using the
   plugin that are not using basic WP themes.
 * The final issue I have is we download the version from here
    [https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/custom-sidebars](https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/custom-sidebars)
 * only to find it is not the latest version and we need to activate WPMU DEV =
   $$$

 * Thanks, I also think CS is a great plugin/idea 🙂
 * What irritates me a bit is that your post kind of puts Bojan in a negative light…
   He’s doing an awesome job! Though your post is quite polite, thanks for that
   as well.
 * As lead-dev of the Custom Sidebars plugin I want to state those two points very
   clearly:
 * 1. Our plugins were not tested with all existing WordPress plugins and themes,
   and there can be incompatibility issues with plugins like Zen4WP
 * 2. Our free plugins naturally have a lower update frequency then our Pro plugins.
   They lag behind a few releases in most cases.
 * Our Support Team is doing their best to find the reason for any issues you have
   and if possible communicate workarounds.
 * Generally: It sounds like this thread is just a reminder and does not report
   a new issue with Custom Sidebars? If this is true, it would be more constructive
   to help us reproduce any issues you have in the other threads 😉
 * Thanks, Philipp

 * Hey ripefruit,
 * First of all we appreciate your feedback and taking time to post on the forum
   🙂
 * > For example, I run a second admin (login and pw) on the site. It works perfectly
   > when the plugin is deactivated but when active, it continually
 * I remember testing for similar issue but can’t really find the non responded
   thread related to this as most likely member didn’t respond there. I don’t see
   you have one of your own so if you have any issue with Custom Sidebars please
   open a thread so we can try to troubleshoot this further.
 * > I can see good old Bojan Radonic (WPMU DEV Support) defending it saying he
   > can never recreate an issue but the fact remains, user after user has
 * This is actually not true, we take testing very seriously and always have to
   reproduce the issue before sending this to our developer so we can provide precise
   steps on how to recreate the problem in order to have bugs fixed as fast as possible
   and save our developer’s time. Sometimes bugs stay open as members are not willing
   to commit more time in testing for conflicts. I’d gladly do that myself but as
   you probably know we’re not allowed to ask for admin access on WordPress.org
   forums due to forum rules you can find [here](https://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome).
 * > Custom Sidebar causing Conflict with Zen4WP
 * There was one thread related to issue with Zen4WP, both developers posted there,
   member didn’t so we never testing this thoroughly form the lack of information.
 * > PHP Warning: Missing argument 2 for apply_filters() -line 177
 * I managed to recreate this issue and reported this to our leading developer,
   this will be fixed in one of the following updates. I even offered temporary
   solution [here](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/php-warning-missing-argument-2-for-apply_filters-line-177?replies=1#post-7191317)
   as this should be related to premium version of the plugin.
 * > Cannot send session cache limiter – headers already sent in
 * Couldn’t reproduce this on my end, most likely a conflict with another plugin/
   theme. We can’t test our plugin with all plugins/themes as Philipp mentioned
   above.
 * > Something that does make us laugh is Bojan saying the issue is with a theme
   > and not the plugin.
 * This is just a standard troubleshooting flow so we can try to pin point the issue.
   As far as I know when a javascript error happens it can prevent scripts that
   were supposed to be loaded after the one that causes the error not to load properly
   resulting in something not working correctly. Conflicts like this can happen
   between a theme and another plugin or between two plugins and could not be related
   to Custom Sidebars. I order to know we need to test it.
 * > Personally, I’d like to see WPMU DEV show us 50 operational web sites using
   > the plugin that are not using basic WP themes.
 * Custom Sidebars has over 100 000 active installs and also has average rating
   of 4.2, I pretty sure we can find a lot more then 50 sites.
 * As for the version number as Philipp mentioned above free plugins naturally have
   a lower update frequency then our Pro plugins.
 * Sorry for the long post I had to try to address everything you pointed out.
 * Have a nice day!
 * Best regards,
    Bojan
